A slope calculator finds the steepness and direction of the line through two points. Enter the coordinates and get the slope, plus the related point-slope and slope-intercept forms.
The slope m measures how fast a line rises or falls: rise (change in y) divided by run (change in x). A larger absolute value means a steeper line, and the sign tells you the direction.
Once you have the slope and one point, you can write the line in point-slope form y − y₁ = m(x − x₁) and rearrange it into slope-intercept form y = mx + b by solving for b.
Slope equals rise over run: m = (y₂ − y₁) / (x₂ − x₁). Enter the coordinates of two points and the calculator applies this formula directly.
A positive slope rises left to right, a negative slope falls, a zero slope is flat (horizontal line), and an undefined slope is a vertical line.
